Liana's
Letter
How can Michelle Obama look even more striking
than she does? In my article “Once Upon A Time
There Was A Little Black Dress” you’ll not only
see how she can do it, but also learn how you too
can discover exactly what your own little black
dress looks like.
And why did we choose Diane Halfman to be this
issue’s Masterpiece of the Month? When I spoke to
her the other day and heard her story of how she
stepped up to "claim her crown," there was no
doubt she was going to win this month’s title!
We’ve even linked to an audio file so you can hear
the revealing story in her own words.
In our article "What’s Happening With IT?"
you’ll find out about some of the great
transformative events coming up at the Academy of
Image Therapy.
Craig Winner is now CEO of Image Therapy, Inc.
He’ll be guiding The Academy of Image Therapy as
we begin to offer online remote learning solutions
for men and women who can not easily attend
in-room classes. Online, you'll be able to study
with an Image Therapist and learn to live in
brilliance at your highest level. The Academy will
also soon begin offering an Accreditation Program
for professions in related fields. After studying
and becoming qualified to apply the principles of
Image Therapy in their specific areas of
expertise, professionals will be granted the post
nominal I.T.A. And most exciting of all, for men
and women wishing a career as an Image Therapist,
we'll soon begin teaching an advance degree
program in the field of Image Therapy. I’ll share
more about that in our next Style Sanctuary.
We’ve had an amazing season. Part of that was
my honor to teach Image Therapy to the
professional Trainers studying with Mr. Jack
Canfield in his "Train The Trainer" program. With
their newly acquired knowledge they’ll now be able
to apply the principles of Image Therapy to their
own future clients.
I have begun writing a monthly column about
Image Therapy for U Magazine, the largest fashion
magazine in the Middle East.
We're unpacking now in our new, larger offices.
We will be seeing clients and teaching workshops
on the second story of a beautiful vintage
building on fashonable Robertson Blvd. in Beverly
Hills. Private VIP clients will be seen in a
bright elegant salon. A couple new employees have
joined us as well. I'll introduce them to you next
time.
And without a doubt, nothing comes closer to my
heart than the recent 5th birthday of my sweet
little grand daughter, Alexandra. I've shared some
photos from the party on my facebook page. Have you sent me a friend request
yet?
With Love and Light,
Liana
P.S. Please remember, I'm always eager for your
feedback. You can ask questions, make suggestions,
or just say hello by contacting me at http://www.imagetherapists.com/contact.html
or calling 310-289-9283.

Once Upon A Time There Was A Little Black
Dress
That troubling “little black dress” myth has
been around a long time.
I think it originally began about the time
couture design started to be replaced by ready
made, prêt-à-porter. It was easier to manufacture
black, and was helped along by the popularity of
Coco Chanel’s early designs. Black came into vogue
and has stayed there since.
Any social event after five o’clock is cocktail
hour. And that means you need to slip into your
little black dress. Right? And just like people
believe men can only wear black tuxedos, they also
believe there’s only one black and that “color” is
right for everyone. The truth is few people can
get away with attractively wearing “Blind Black,”
but everyone has and can wear their own “Authentic
Black.”
Every human being has his or her own version of
an appealing, deep, dark seductive neutral color
that looks really amazing. Unlike as with pure
Blind Black, however, discovering and wearing your
Authentic Black compliments your skin tone, is
kinder to your face, and gives you a healthy more
vibrant appearance.
How do you determine your own Authentic Black?
The picture below on the left is the original
photo taken of Michelle Obama wearing a "Blind
Black" dress in a style that does not complement
her features. The revised image on the right uses
Image Therapy principles to complement and
accentuate her natural beauty. Notice how the
deeper oval neckline reflects the gentle curve of
her chin and gives her neck and face a longer,
more elegant appearance. Removing the ruffles at
mid body lowers her waistline, giving her body a
more proportionate look as well as a more slender
silhouette. A slightly shorter skirt, while still
being a respectable length, elongates her legs
which accents her stature. Changing her purse to a
more subdued neutral color in harmony with her
bracelet, you are no longer distracted by the
overpowering color of steel blue and can now focus
on her face and essence. One of Mrs. Obama's
personal blacks is a deep burgundy as shown in the
photo to the right. Against her skin, this deep
color gives her a warm, friendly, and approachable
glow. Notice how the "blind black" she wears in
the left photo is harsh and unwelcoming on her
skin.

One of the first exercises I invite my Image
Therapy clients to do is stand in front of a
mirror, clearly and honestly looking at their
reflection.
Try it yourself. What is your natural hair
color underneath? What is your eye color? Look at
your skin tone. Notice the myriad of tones
present. Do you see tinges of greens, blues, reds,
and yellows? These are the colors that make up the
palette you’ll use to discern your own Authentic
Black. Now choose a predominate color and imagine
its deepest, darkest value, thereby turning it
into a dark, nearly black neutral. What you’ve
just determined is your own natural Authentic
Black.
If your eyes are brown, most likely your iris
has a dark brown ring around the edge. That color
also reveals one of your own Authentic Blacks. If
you have a lot of green in your eyes, then your
Authentic Black might be a deep forest green, or a
rich, dark olive color. The rim around the iris of
blue or blue/green eyes is most often slate, or
deep midnight navy, making those your “blacks.”
Now, go replace that “little black dress” hanging
in your closet with a beautiful little Authentic
Black one and get ready for the compliments to
start coming immediately.
Of course, some can wear pure Blind Black. If
you have eyes and hair of pure black, without any
hints of brown, wearing Blind Black can compliment
you nicely. There is also one universal Authentic
Black that looks beautiful on almost everyone and
is safe to fall back on. That is deep rich
teal.
As an Image Therapist I work with men and women
with all types of appearance. A woman with
beautiful olive skin and brown hair and eyes, for
example, if clothed in Blind Black, her skin tone
deadens and appears sallow. She looks harsh,
unappealing, and unapproachable. Switching her to
an outfit in her Authentic Black immediately
transforms her into a softer, more appealing and
beautiful human being glowing with life. Now that
you have an understanding of your appropriate
black, try this comparison on yourself and share
the experience with a friend to see their
reaction.
What can you expect now when you go to a
Cocktail Party dressed in your newly discovered
Authentic Black? People will come up and talk to
you. You’ll shine more radiantly, distinctive than
others wearing their traditional little black
dress. Once you’ve switched to wearing your
Authentic Black, there’s no going back. Instead of
your appearance saying, “stay away from me” you’ll
start to be seen and attract the right kind of
attention.
Learning and wearing the right colors and your
own Authentic Black requires effort and
knowledge. But the truth is the rewards are
a million fold. Every single Image Therapy client,
whether man or woman, a movie star, politician, or
housewife, has the same response to discovering
their authentic self: “Now people really see
ME.”
And that’s when the myth of the little black
dress falls away and their blossoming
begins. |

My client, Diane Halfman, called me the
other day and said, "Liana, you will so get a kick
out of this story!"
Diane recently was the recipient of an award at
a personal enhancement program conducted in San
Diego. She now volunteers to support others in
that seminar. In preparing for that event, Diane
had the choice to conform to others' demands
against her better judgment, or stand up and claim
her crown.
Diane tells me, "We were having phone calls
with the staff to get all the details dialed in
for the program. A few days before the event I got
an email that said, for the dress code, they
wanted everyone dressed completely in black. It
immediately struck me as not being authentic to
me. I don't own anything in black and wouldn't
even have something to wear."
"I emailed them back" Diane said, "and wrote
that black was not an authentic color for me.
Chocolate brown was, however, my personal black
and I'd be more than willing to wear all chocolate
brown to help support the group. The next day we
had a final call and they said that they were 'ok'
if someone wore chocolate brown but their
preference was, and they strongly
recommended, that everyone dresses completely in
black." Diane continued, "so I let the call go and
emailed a message that said, being a coach and
living an authentic life and teaching people to
emulate and do the same, it would not be authentic
for me to wear only black to the event. I could
wear chocolate brown and if that worked for them,
great. If not, it would be best if I would not be
part of the assist team and just be a
participant."
"And what happened then?" I asked. "I got an
email back that said chocolate brown would be just
fine."
Diane gave her all and supported the event. She
showed up wearing a gorgeous deep chocolate brown
outfit, as beautiful as always, and claimed her
crown as a student of Image Therapy.
Congratulations Diane Halfman. Thank you for
being an inspiration and sharing your beautiful
story with all of us!
