I love trendy things. Will they look good on me?

Wearing something trendy and looking good is not just a matter of age. Being twenty years old does not necessarily mean you CAN do trendy. Turning fifty does not mean you have to stop looking trendy and "start dressing your age". Your personality and body structure are the two important components to consider.

back to questions

Why do I have no sense of style?

Style is not something we are born with. It comes with learning. As you develop more knowledge and confidence in what looks good, you experience the freedom to express style in the way you dress. No style... simply means lack of knowledge.

back to questions

I'm 20 lbs overweight. Does that mean I can't look stylish?

No! You don't have to change yourself, or wait until you loose weight to look good. We are all masterpieces just the way we are. Simply learn what complements you is the answer.

back to questions

I think "hip hugger" pants look sexy on other women's bodies. They should look good on me but they don't. Why?

Hip huggers complement a women's body when she has the "right" proportion between her inseam and waist in relation to the rest of her body. It is not an issue of weight or height, but specific body proportion.

I love Fire Engine Red. Can I wear that color?

We can all wear a version of red. That version is determined by the color of your hair, skin, and eyes.

Examples of different reds for different women:

Laura
Bush
Hillary
Clinton
Juliana
Moore
Paloma Picasso

How do I know what accessories look good on me?

Accessories, no matter what they are, need to relate to the shape and scale of the design elements in your face. The properly proportioned earring for example, may reflect the size and shape of your eyes, nose, or mouth.

More than half my wardrobe is black and I continue to shop for black outfits. Why is that and how can I change this habit?

Black is easy and safe. However, black is not inviting. I makes you seem harsh and unapproachable and sallows your skin tone. People have THEIR own version of black. Example: Dark brown, plum, dark forest green, midnight navy. These are all dark colors, however, they are colors and not black. Hence, they are much more forgiving and kinder to your coloring. Keep that in mind when you shop and compare these colors to black and your habit will break on its own.

Why do I have a closet full of clothes yet nothing to wear?

A closet is a "work in progress". For most of us, new pieces come in but old pieces don't leave. If you have never really understood the basics of what looks good on you most of your closet may end up being composed of "ORPHANS". Orphans are pieces that we buy compulsively out of frustration, under pressure, with the need to lift our spirits, without any real constructive thought. After they live in your closet for a while and they don’t' get worn it's natural to start wondering why you have a closet full of clothes yet nothing to wear. The more knowledge you have about what looks good on you the less money you'll spend buying things you'll never wear again.

back to questions

Why don't I have more choices in my closet to wear with my favorite sweater?

Most of us buy outfits, and then they stay outfits. For some reason there is an "unwritten" law in most people's thinking that you can only wear that sweater with "the" skirt, which makes up the outfit. Finding more choices in your closet, mixing and matching, is a question of thinking outside your box. (The box being your limitation of knowledge of what looks good on you) Keeping an outfit together is safe and easy. Having to find new combinations for the same ten pieces requires knowledge of whom you are and how to bring out your personality.

Why do I only have two outfits in my closet that make me feel comfortable and gorgeous at the same time?

We are all creatures of comfort and habit. None of us want to reinvent the wheel so we tend to wear the same things over and over again if they look good and are comfortable. I invite you to explore the possibility of building a full wardrobe that is made up of outfits that do just that. While learning about your own body structure and coloring you will discover the secrets of building just that gorgeous and comfortable wardrobe.

I'm expecting my second child. Do I have to shop for a whole new pregnancy wardrobe?

NO, thank god! To all young moms out there, the good news is that this is 2004 and your big bellies are to be worn with pride. These days, being pregnant is not something you want to hide. By the same token you don't want to look like a tightly wrapped sausage. Finding a medium balance between looking pregnant, being comfortable and only adding about ten pieces to your existing wardrobe is the key to not going bankrupt while expecting a new child. You only really need big clothes for the last four months of pregnancy. And a lot of those pieces may accompany you until your baby is about two months old.

back to questions

My closet is so full yet I only wear the same few outfits over and over again. Why?

That's exactly why! Could it be that you're overwhelmed when you open your closet door? That the first question that comes to you is "How in the hell am I going to find anything in here?" Or, something like, "I used to have that really great red sweater. Where did that go?" Or, do you find yourself sitting in front of your closet, gasping for air, thinking "I wish I could throw everything out that's in here and buy a whole new wardrobe." Part of your lack of creativity may have to do with the fact that you're simply overwhelmed and don't know where to start untangling the mess. So you simply wear the same few outfits over and over again because it's easy. Besides the obvious, which is attending "Closet Confidential", I'd like to give you a little Liana jewel: Choose one corner or one drawer or one shelf at a time. Set a timer for fifteen minutes and work on that area for only that time length of time. This will give you the opportunity to watch your progress and the knowledge that you can do it fifteen minutes at a time.

Try this and let me know how it goes. Email me at Liana@Imagetherapists.com

Why do I keep buying more clothes but still have a hard time getting dressed for work or an event?

Could it be that you're not buying the right clothes? Could it be that you're buying things that may look good on the hanger but not good on you? Having a closet full of clothes does not mean you have a lot of clothes to choose from. It simply means, you have a full closet. You can only choose from clothes that reflect who you are. A good example would be, imagine you 're visiting a friend. Your friend is the exact opposite of who you are and you are standing in front of her closet trying to get dress with her clothes. Would that not be incredibly difficult? Choosing from a closet that does not reflect your personality is just as difficult. So, raise your level of awareness, take a class at the Academy of Image Therapy, and have some fun learning.

Why does something look great on a hanger in the store but not on my body?

When you’re picking something out at a store, the reasoning behind your choice is usually not how functional the item is. We are attracted to some pieces of clothing because they reflect certain parts of our character. We choose items by impulse, under pressure, with a lot of frustration, sometimes with feelings of guilt. In this way we often make the wrong choice. If you learn about your physical structure, your coloring, your proportion, and the way all these components interact with each other, the way they enhance and bring out your essence, your choices will be much more thoughtful. Your Essential Formula is the key to building a wardrobe that looks great on you.

I hate to shop. What can I do?

I’m going to assume you’re one of my clients… My first question to you would be, “Why do you hate to shop?” These are the answers I commonly hear:

• “I can never find anything that looks good on me.”
• “I’ve gained so much weight lately I hate looking at myself in the mirror.”
• “I don’t trust anything the salespeople tell me.”
• “I end up buying things that don’t match my existing wardrobe.”
• “I wait until the last minute and then shop out of sheer frustration.”

All of the above are valid reasons for why we hate to shop. The ultimate reason for all this pressure and frustration is a lack of knowledge. The more you know about yourself, your body, and your personality the more competent you become at efficiently building a wardrobe. When you know what you’re doing, shopping becomes fun.

back to questions

Why do I shop for hours and never find a single thing?

Could it be you have a lack of focus?
Shopping, just like any other task, hobby, or project takes a certain amount of focus and structure. In order to find the right item you need to be able to know what you’re looking for and have a clear idea of how it will work in your wardrobe. The next step, which is the most difficult, is focus while in the store.

back to questions

Why do I keep buying the same type of items over and over again?

Good question! We all do it. The reason is simple. It’s easy and doesn’t need a lot of thought. Unfortunately, the thing we forget in this equation is the fact that we as people change over time. We can’t continue to wear the same uniform day in and day out, year in and year out. There is a great difference between your personal style and your uniform. Get outside your box. I invite you to learn about the diversity of your character and all the other interesting things that make up who you are.

I have a very small income. How can I maximize my wardrobe budget?

The more you know, the better your choices. For those of us that have a lower income it is even more important to have self-knowledge. You can not run the risk of spending money on items that are not right for you. Every dollar you spend should be spent with focus and knowledge of building a harmonious wardrobe. We are lucky in the U. S. that quality clothing is readably available on a shoestring budget. It really doesn’t take a million dollars to look like a million dollars.

I sell designer clothes at a big department store. How can I use IT to better service my clients?

Giving your clients an education while they‘re shopping is the best tool to keep them interested in what you have to say. Allowing your client to see that you have their best interest at heart and truly want to be of service to them is a sure way to keep them as a repeat client. Simply telling someone that something looks good on them is not enough. If you can back your statement up with a solid WHY IT LOOKS GOOD, your customers will instantly recognize your true value.

How can I make a strong first impression in my upcoming job interviews after graduation?

Leaving the college environment and entering the “real” business world is a big transition. Suddenly, you go from jeans and sweat shirts, mini skirts and tank tops, to suits, silk blouses and heels. That transition alone is shocking enough. But not knowing WHICH suit with WHICH silk blouse and WHICH heels to wear to WHICH meeting is even more overwhelming! So before you fill up that closet of yours with new business attire I recommend 9708080970977.

I'm a real estate agent and making an unforgetable positive first impression is paramount. How can IT help me achieve that?

It only takes three seconds to make a first impression. And you only have one chance at it. If your first impression is not positive, research tells us it takes thirty-six hours to correct that impression. Most real estate agents don’t get that much time with their clients. The more harmonious you dress, the more available, welcoming, and inviting you appear. Wearing a black suit to your first meeting with a new client, for example, will not bring out the best of who you are. Instead, it will act as a deterrent in your attempt to build a relationship. Understanding what colors have a positive psychological impact on the people around you is one of the valuable lessons that IT will teach you. Our 0e9700-99 class is designed specifically for professionals in your field.

How can I retain my femininity and still come across as an effective corporate leader?

You don’t have to dress like a man to be an effective leader! “Dressing femininely” often gets confused as inappropriately “dressing sexy.” It is because of this that corporate women are choosing to dress more like men then women. In doing so they are detracting from their own natural and powerful leadership assets. A businesswoman, cloaking herself in a male shell, hinders the skills you’ve developed over time.

I'm a size 18. Can I still wear sexy lingerie?

Whether or not something is sexy on your body does not depend on the size of your body. The fact that it looks sexy depends on the proportion of the piece in relation to the body it’s on. The other factors that come into play are the sound of your voice, the intensity of your gaze, and above all, your personality. If you’re a shy 5’ 10” size 18 demure blonde with a melodic voice and a mellow gaze, sexy on you is going to look very different than a size 18 at 5’2” with black hair, deep sultry voice, very intense gaze, and outgoing personality. Learn what sexy looks like on you in our popular Lingerie class. It’s the perfect environment to experience your own uniqueness, whether you’re a size 2 or size 20.

Why is it that sometimes I feel invisible and other days I'm noticed?

Feeling invisible is directly connected to our lack of self-esteem. Studies have shown that of the key factors in the area of attraction between male and female, self-acceptance ranks highest. Walking down the street being noticed or unnoticed is a direct result of that level of self-esteem. We are all attracted to confidence. We admire it in others and seek it in ourselves. It is your level of self-esteem that attracts people to you. Hence, the lack thereof makes you invisible to others. Image Therapy is the key to a higher level of self-confidence. The more you know yourself, the brighter you’ll shine.

I'm back in the dating scene after a long time. Help!

Needless to say, fashion, dating, men, and the whole scene has changed from the last time you were single. And most of all, you’ve changed! We all need an update, most of all those of us seeking a new relationship. Taking inventory of who we are today, and making that better is the best way to start. Why is it so difficult to get dressed in the morning?

It could be one of many answers…

• You’re bored with your clothes.

• A lot of the items in your closet don’t fit anymore and those that do have been worn to death.

• You have a lot of clothes but you don’t know how to combine them.

• You have a closet full of orphans and nothing matches.

• You haven’t found your own personal expression of style and getting dressed is like a chore instead of a creative fun act. …

• or one of many more answers as to why you’re having difficulty.

back to questions

Why do people forget me but remember my outfit?

When someone remembers your red suit or the colorful sweater you wore to a meeting it usually means the item overpowered you. When clothing shows up before you do, you get lost. People have a hard time concentrating on what you’re say when an item is so dominant. The key to personal style is that YOU are the masterpiece and everything in your closet should support that masterpiece, not distract from it.

back to questions

Now in my Sixties, do I need to start "dressing my age"?

No… and besides, what does that mean? The art of dressing has to do with authenticity, rather than age. You can be a twenty five year old lawyer with extremely conservative views and I can assure you, you will dress more conservatively than a sixty-five year old cabaret singer from Paris. Granted, certain pieces of clothing and fashion trends just look better on a younger body but what must be kept in mind is the more you learn and understand who you are the better you can reflect it in the way you dress no matter what the age.

What is the most affordable way I can learn about IT?

The most affordable way to get introduced to IT and learn about your Essential Formula is with classes at the Academy of Image Therapy. In IT101 thru 104 you will learn all the information necessary to start building a wardrobe that is authentic to you. A special price package is available through the Academy webpage here.

back to questions

How was Image Therapy invented?

Image Therapy evolved as the result of wanting to find solutions to educate my clients. I realized about 15 years ago while designing couture clothing, that telling a client “this doesn’t look good on you” was not a good enough explanation. So I set out to discover why certain styles, fabrics, prints, etc, work better on some people and not others. For example, why is it that a pair of twins cannot necessarily wear the same clothes even though they look exactly alike? One may be shy with a soft gentle voice; the other may have a loud voice with an outgoing personality. The bottom line was the realization that people were NOT made up of just their coloring and physical proportions. Every human beings is a living breathing work of art, a three dimensional masterpiece. This realization gave birth to the concept of a person’s unique Essential Formula.

Am I damaging my skin with all the makeup I wear?

Good question! How much do you know about the ingredients in the product you use, from skin care to makeup? Have you been given an education about what is GOOD for your skin? Most of the products on the market today claim to be healthy, but in reality are filled with animal by-products, hydrogenated oils, petroleum, excessive alcohol, and ingredients which overtime damage your skin. I’ve only found one manufacturer that offers the purest ingredients and delivers the best results. Over the years I’ve seen Arbonne products reverse the aging process and have seen positive results from hundreds of users.

back to questions

How do I know which colors look best on me?

The simple answer is: Replicate what you see in the mirror. Take a really good look at your eyes and try to distinguish the delicate colors in your iris; then try to match those colors in what you wear. Do the same thing with your skin and natural hair color. However, this is an over simplification and these rules do not always apply. We also need to be aware of the harmony of coloring between your hair, skin and eyes, how it relates to the sound of your voice, the intensity of your gaze, and whether or not your personality can support this combination. Imagine a shy, delicately built young woman, with ashy blonde hair, porcelain pink skin, big sky blue eyes, and a gentle voice. Wearing her sky blue eye color all over, (i.e. a pants suit) would be too overpowering. However, if the same woman had a strong personality, an intense gaze, and deep voice, she could wear that blue pants suit. These intangibles of her Essential Formula are responsible for what and why something looks good on her.
